Characters

1) Eye very big (larger than snouth length).
2) Dorsal, pectoral and anal fins originating almost on same height.
3) Pelvic fins originate before dorsal fin.
) Dorsal and anal fins with scales; not extended sickel-like.
) Body height and laterally compressed; uniformely silvern to cupreous.
Up to 46 cm length.

Similar species

Atlantic pomfret - anal fin origin clearly behind dorsal fin origin; anal fin clearly less extended than dorsal fin.
Rough pomfret - anal fin origin clearly behind dorsal fin origin; anterior parts of dorsal and anal fin much elongated.
Big-scale pomfret - anal fin origin clearly behind dorsal fin origin; anterior parts of dorsal and anal fin much elongated.

Biology

Undertakes seasonal migrations; lives in open waters down to 400 m depth.
