Characters

1) Mouth large (multiple times of diameter of eye).
2) Pelvic and anal fins grown together.
3) Dorsal and anal fins connected with caudal fin.
) Both eyes on the left body side.
) Body surface brownish with dark unregular spots and with a distinct stripe through the eyes; blind side whitish.
Up to 25 cm length.

Similar species

Turbot - strong bony turbercles on the body surface; pelvic fins not fused together with the anal fin.
Turbot - front part of dorsal fin developed as free fin rays; pelvic fins not fused together with the anal fin.
Scaldfish - dorsal and anal fins not connected to caudal fin; dorsal fin origin above eye (vs. on upper jaw in topknot).

Biology

Bottom-living on stones and rocks mostly grown with algae; able to adhere on surfaces.

Diet

Feeds on small fish and crustaceans.

Importance

Of no commercial importance.
