Characters
1) Mouth very small (smaller than diameter of eye).
2) Lateral line with slight curve above pectoral fin.
3) Short caudal peduncle.
●) Both eyes on the right body side.
●) Body surface reddish-brownish marmorated with dark spots; blind side white.
Usually 30 to 40 cm, max. up to 60 cm length and 2 kg weight.
Similar species
Witch - lateral line almost straight; mucus filled cavities on the blind side of head.
Scaldfish - both eyes on the left body side; mouth larger.
Long rough dab - mouth much larger.
Plaice - long caudal peduncle; bony tubercles in the prolongation of the space between the eyes backwards on the head.
Flounder - long caudal peduncle; bony tubercles along basis of dorsal and anal fins.
Common dab - long caudal peduncle; lateral line more strongly curved.
Biology
Bottom-living on hard ground (rocks, gravel, mussel beds, etc.) down to 100 m (more seldom down to 200 m) depth.Diet
