Characters

1) Characteristic colour pattern.
2) Second dorsal fin only little smaller than first dorsal fin.
3) Upper margin of caudal peduncle strongly serrated.
) 5 gill slits.
) Inside of mouth black.
Females up to 90 cm, males up to 60 cm length.

Smallspotted catshark - without scutes on dorsal part of caudal peduncle; inner side of mouth not black

Biology

Benthic in depths below 200 m, occasionally up to only 50 m depth; lays eggs.

Diet

Mussels, squids, crustaceans and fish.

Importance

Of no commercial importance.

Endangerment

Common bycatch in trawling and longlines, but presumably not endangered.
