Characters

1) Pelvic fins modified to a round sucking disc.
2) Origin of pectoral fins reaching till under head.
3) Dorsal and anal fins ending before origin of caudal fin.
) Body tadpole-like.
Usually around 9 cm, maximal up to 12 cm length.

Sea snail - end of dorsal and anal fins overlapping origin of caudal fin.

Biology

Bottom-living fish often in very shallow water with dense growth of algea, but also over pebbles, down to 30 m depth; often present in intertidal zones; Spawning season in spring and early summer.

Diet

Feeds on small invertebrates.

Importance

Of no commercial importance.

Endangerment

Decline of stocks due to loss of habitat and increasing water pollution.
