Characters
1) One or two spines on top near of base of tail (broken in some individuals).
●) Disc almost round.
Often 40 to 150 cm, up to max. 200 cm length.
Similar species
Biology
Benthic over soft and muddy bottoms down to 200 m depth. Nocturnal. After a gestation period of 4 months often 4 to 9 young will be born. Two litters per year are possible.
Diet
Bottom-living invertebrates and fish.
Importance
Of commercial use in the Mediterranean- and Black sea.
Endangerment
Often by-catch when fishing bottom-living fish.
