Characters

1) Pelvic fins are grown together to form a sucking disc.
2) Body scaleless and transparent.
) Males with canine-like enlarged teeth in lower jaw.
Usually up to 5 cm, females max. up to 6 cm, males up to 8 cm length.

Similar species

Two-spotted goby - dark, yellow bordered spot on caudal peduncle.

Biology

Lives in free water, often in dense swarms. An annual fish, who lays its eggs between June and August in mussel shells or housings of tube worms; males defend the clutch.

Diet

Feeds on zooplankton.

Remarks

Gobiids resemble each other much; this holds especially true for poorly coloured specimens and juveniles. Often even specialist have much difficulties to clearly identify the species.
