Characters

1) Four yellow-greyish horns on the head.
2) Second dorsal fin larger than first one.
3) Uniform greenish or brown-greyish colouration without light spots and stripes.
Usually 15 to 25 cm, maximum up to 37 cm length.

Similar species

Bull-rout - without horns on head.
Longspines sea-scorpion - without horns on head.

Biology

Lives near the bottom, prefers soft grounds down to 20 m depth. 2000 to 18000 green-black eggs are layed from November to January.

Diet

Feeds mainly on isopods and worms.

Importance

Of no importance in the Baltic area; of local importance in arctic waters.
